Understanding Fixed Deposit (FD) Calculator

A Fixed Deposit (FD) is a secure investment offered by banks and NBFCs providing a fixed, guaranteed rate of interest over a pre-determined tenure ranging from 7 days to 10 years.

Per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) master directives, bank fixed deposits compound interest on a quarterly basis. Bank FDs are insured up to ₹5,00,000 per depositor per bank by the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

Core Calculation FormulaOfficial Rule
Cumulative FD: A = P × (1 + r/4)^(4 × t) | Non-Cumulative: Interest paid monthly/quarterly
P (Principal): Initial deposit amount
r (Annual Interest Rate): Contracted interest rate per annum (as a decimal)
Compounding Frequency (4): Quarterly compounding standard mandated by RBI guidelines
t (Tenure in Years): Total duration of the deposit

* Senior citizens (age 60+) receive an additional interest rate of 0.50% p.a.
