Understanding Recurring Deposit (RD) Calculator

A Recurring Deposit (RD) is a disciplined monthly savings scheme that allows individuals to deposit a fixed amount every month for a pre-determined tenure (from 6 months to 10 years) at a guaranteed interest rate.

In Indian banking, RD interest is calculated on a quarterly compounding basis using the standard Indian Banks' Association (IBA) formula. Senior citizens receive an additional 0.50% p.a. interest benefit.

Core Calculation FormulaOfficial Rule
Maturity (M) = P × [ (1 + i)^n - 1 ] / [ 1 - (1 + i)^(-1/3) ]
P (Monthly Installment): Fixed deposit amount committed every month
i: Quarterly interest rate (Annual Rate ÷ 400)
n: Total number of quarterly compounding periods
TDS Threshold: Section 194A TDS applies if total bank interest (FD + RD) > ₹40,000

* Each monthly installment earns compound interest for the remaining quarters of the tenure.
